چکیده

Efficient cooperation relies on good coordination. Individually, existing workflow, hypermedia, and groupware systems can only manage some types of dependency between activities. Furthermore, these systems provide either formal or informal mechanisms for coordination. We argue that comprehensive and flexible coordination support is needed to manage all types of dependency and to cover the whole spectrum of informal and formal coordination mechanisms. In this paper, possible architectures for integrating workflow, hypermedia and groupware services are analyzed. One promising approach to provide such integrated coordination support is to implement cooperative hypermedia upon a shared information space, and to integrate workflow semantics into cooperative hypermedia. A suitable architecture for such integrated coordination support is identified. A prototype system (CHIPS) based on the architecture is described.

Flexible Coordination with Cooperative Hypermedia

In current work ow and groupware systems, there is a gap between formal and informal coordination mechanisms. To ll the gap, exible coordination support covers the whole spectrum of informal and formal coordination mechanisms. In this paper, a exible coordination model integrating formal and informal coordination mechanisms is presented. Methods of using cooperative hypermedia concepts to unifo...

Supporting Cooperative Activities with Shared Hypermedia Workspaces on the WWW

Team members usually cooperate on a business process by partitioning it into several activities, which in turn generate one or more work items. Work items either need to be processed separately or jointlydependent on the overall context. In addition, joint redefinition of the activity breakdown structure can be necessary while executing activities. Thus, two types of supportflexible workflows...

Integrating Workflow with Interacting Agents to Support Cooperative Software Engineering

Cooperative software engineering processes involve structured, repeatable processes as well as dynamic, cooperative processes. Existing workflow systems are suited to model and support the former type of processes, and multi-agent systems are suited to model and support the latter. We have designed and implemented a gluing-framework for integrating workflow processes with software agents. By us...
